Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2002

FunMail announced today a shipping version of FunMail Client version 1.0 developed for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless BREW is an application development platform created by Qualcomm for mobile phones. It was originally developed for CDMA handsets, but has since been ported to other air interfaces including GSM/GPRS, UMTS, and CDMA. (TM) (BREW(TM)) platform. The FunMail content-driven messaging engine offers BREW-enabled phone users the ability to author, receive and send multimedia messages (MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) An enhanced transmission service that enables graphics, video clips and sound files to be transmitted via cellphones. Developed as part of the 3GPP project, MMS phones are generally backward compatible with SMS and EMS. ) with their favorite characters such as South Park and Garfield.

The FunMail BREW client allows BREW-enabled handsets to display compelling animations, and enables users to "author" animated messages simply by entering a text message. The application then interacts with the FunMail Messaging server to generate content relevant to the user's message.

"We are pleased to be working with QUALCOMM to push the envelope on what a wireless handset can do," said FunMail chief executive officer Adam Lavine. "The BREW platform's rich media capabilities are very attractive to us at FunMail, as it creates a very compelling user experience in a very small amount of data."

"FunMail is a great illustration of the BREW platform's capabilities," said Jan Lezny, senior director of developer and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "FunMail's content-driven MMS messaging services create a great user experience, letting friends and loved ones communicate in a compelling, but more importantly entertaining way."

QUALCOMM's BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that provides an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The BREW platform is part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development, device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment. The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK (Software Developer's Kit) See developer's toolkit and Windows SDK.
