RESIDENTS in Middlesbrough are being urged to get the hula habit to fitness.

 aerobics sessions are part of a packed programme of fitness events, which also includes salsa and boxercise, unveiled in East Middlesbrough.

Hula hooping, hugely popular in the 1960s, is making a comeback and Craig Woodhouse, community activities officer for East Middlesbrough, hopes people will enjoy the nostalgic craze.

Craig Woodhouse, Community Activities Officer for East Middlesbrough will be holding free taster sessions in each of the East Middlesbrough Community Centres.

Craig said "Hula Hoop is a fantastic and fun way to get fit.

"The Salsa is sure to attract those who have recently been inspired by the success of shows like Strictly Come Dancing Come Dancing is a BBC TV ballroom dancing competition show that ran on and off from 1949 to 1998, becoming one of television's longest-running shows.

The classes are open to any East Middlesbrough resident over the age of 16.

The taster sessions are: Netherfields Community Centre on Friday, from 9.30am to 10.30am - bums and tums aerobics, hula hoop aerobics and salsa dancing.

Park End Community Centre: on Tuesday October 6, 10am to 11am - chair based and adapted Tai Chi Tai Chi Definition

T'ai chi is a Chinese exercise system that uses slow, smooth body movements to achieve a state of relaxation of both body and mind.
