Kids learned a thing or two about the animal kingdom with visits from Newham Grange Leisure Farm's livestock and a pondlife display with tadpoles and insects.

Youngsters could also try their hand at countryside crafts like willow basket weaving and hunger was staved off with a barbecue of produce from Maltby Farm.

One of the organisers, subpostmaster Alan Little, said: "We tend to get something that's country-pursuit oriented. Last year we had a falconry falconry (fôl`kənrē, fô`–, făl`–), sport of hunting birds or small animals with falcons or other types of hawks; eagles are used in some parts of the world.  display. All of the tombola prizes were donated by members of the community in the village.

"The weather looked threatening all the time but all in all, it was a very good day. It's a lot of work but people seem to enjoy it and it gives something back to the community."
