Fun for all the gang in the latest Scenic.Byline: Maxine Ashford BOASTING great comfort levels, outstanding performance figures and class-leading space, the third generation Renault Scenic is packed with quality. But don't be fooled - for although this may look like the ideal family motor with lots of "nice" creature comforts, beneath the bonnet is a beast waiting to be unleashed. The Dynamique model supplied for the test drive was fitted with a very responsive 1.9-litre engine wS hich delivered plenty of power both in and around town and out on the open road. The road-holding was excellent and the large windscreen means superb, unobstructed all-round visibility. The Scenic is a good looking vehicle with smooth streamlining and eye-catching curves and that impressive design continues throughout the cabin. Although I have to confess my first thoughts when I started the engine was: "Who's stolen my instrument panels?" For instead of the traditional looking dashboard with dials and gauges, the Scenic has a digital central display with multi-functional trip computer. The optional extras on the model included an electric panoramic sunroof, a convenience pack which incorporates parking proximity sensors, 17in alloy wheels, metallic paint and an upgraded sound system. This added an extra pounds 3k-plus to the starting price, but to be honest the spec fitted as standard is very impressive. Comfort levels throughout are very good and there is ample space for three adults in the back. The generously-sized boot area simply adds to the appeal, as do the numerous storage compartments including pull-out trays under the front and rear seats. If I had to find fault - and to be honest I was struggling - then it would be the push button hand-brake. These always make me a little nervous when it comes to a steep hill start as I much prefer the usual lever brake. The cabin is packed with classy features including air conditioning, footwell lighting, cruise control with speed limiter lim·it·er n. 1. One that limits: a limiter of choices. 2. Of course, the Scenic comes with the full award-winning collection of safety features that Renault has become renowned for in recent years. All in all, a great vehicle with appeal across the range of buyers and at a price that grabs your attention too.
