Fuming fans give footie horns an earful.

FOOTBALL fans have given the red card to ear-bashing horns being blasted at Confederations Cup games.

They are to blame for the constant drone heard during the football matches in South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa. .

 - who are covering the tournament - have already complained about the noise and supporters in the UK are now kicking up a stink.

Some are even calling for the vuvuzela horns - the name is thought to come from the Zulu for "making noise" - to be banned from next year's World Cup there.

Former Arsenal star Lee Dixon moaned during the USA-Italy game that they were "irritating".

And most punters seem to agree. One told a BBC web forum: "They are a nuisance - I've turned every game off because of them."

Another added: "They detract from the sport."

One fan insisted: "I implore im·plore

But others claim the horns are now a tradition at African games.

One supporter said: "I think it's absolute arrogance of European fans to ask for the vuvuzelas to be banned. It's a big part of football culture in South Africa as well as other parts of Africa, as well as the tribal drums you can hear.

"If the vuvuzela is a traditional part of the African football experience, it is arrogant of the Western media to come along and tell them it is ruining our TV coverage."
