This fully correlated ESIG-3000-based visual system was transported last month to Bandirma, Turkey, where it was installed as part of a weapons system trainer Weapons Systems Trainer (WST). A training device (simulator) designed particularly for weapons training. A term commonly used by the United States Department of Defense, particularly for aircraft simulators.  (WST WST

The WST simulates electronic warfare, programmable Digital Radar Land Mass Simulation (pDRLMS), and Peace Onyx Low-Altitude Navigation and Targeting Infrared for Night (LANTIRN LANTIRN Low-Altitude Navigation & Targeting Infrared for Night ). The out-the-window, forward-looking infrared (FLIR), pDRLMS, and terrain-following radar (TFR TFR Total fertility rate, see there ) imagery is generated from a single database, so that correlation is achieved. Such a system is unprecedented in the simulation industry.

Evans & Sutherland supplied the complete visual system for this trainer, including the image generator and collimated In a straight line. Collimated light beams are parallel rays of light.  displays. The 90,000-square mile correlated database was jointly developed by Evans & Sutherland and CAE-Link.

Bob Schumacker, simulation division president at Evans & Sutherland, said that "the successful delivery of the Turkish F-16 system was largely a team effort - it took the unified efforts of many of our employees and our CAE-Link partner to bring this milestone about. It is a significant accomplishment."

In addition to the Bandirma system, Evans & Sutherland supplied a correlated visual database upgrade for the existing F-16 Block 30 simulator in Akinci (formerly Murted) to accommodate the pDRLMS addition; as well as a new visual system featuring VISTA VIEW, E&S's head-tracked projector, that will be part of the CAE-Link F-16 Block 40 WST in Diyarbakir. The Diyarbakir system also has a 90,000-square mile correlated database for both the out-the-window and the pDRLMS scenes.

Both the Bandirma system and the Akinci upgrade were delivered to Turkey last month and was installed by CAE-Link. Installation of the Diyarbakir system will begin in February 1995.

Evans & Sutherland has sold visual systems to every U.S. branch of service, allied military forces, NASA, airlines around the world, prime training contractors, and major airframe manufacturers.
