Evolved from programmable architectures such as CPLD and FPGA, adaptive computing is an order of magnitude faster in rate of reuse (ROR) and can reconfigure itself in  solutions, today announced its new FullTime product line: FullTime Cluster(TM) 4.0, FullTime Data(TM) 4.0, FullTime Awareness Modules(TM) and FullTime Software Development Kit(TM) (SDK (Software Developer's Kit) See developer's toolkit and Windows SDK.

).

These products are the first to enable Fortune 1000 customers to proactively manage service level availability. They ensure applications, data and resources remain available to users during both planned and unplanned events, enabling IT to optimize system operations and continuously tune applications without compromising service levels.

FullTime Software also announced two bundled solutions, FullTime Enterprise(TM) 4.0 and FullTime Department(TM) 4.0. These solutions are made up of combinations of the new FullTime standalone products and will be available with professional services (job) professional services - A department of a supplier providing consultancy and programming manpower for the supplier's products.  and support.

FullTime Enterprise offers IT professionals a powerful, customizable solution for optimizing the service levels of enterprise-wide applications across a variety of IS environments. FullTime Department is the first software solution designed specifically with the needs of departmental business users in mind.

Its powerful capabilities help ensure availability of workgroup and departmental applications and data, yet it is easy to install and provides a wizard-based interface to ease ongoing management and tuning.

"These new products are built upon several years of experience working with enterprise and department customers, as well as experience with our three generations of high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue.  and data protection products," said Rick Thau, chairman, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Redefining High Availability

FullTime Software's four new standalone products and two bundled solutions redefine the concept of high availability to eliminate downtime resulting from planned computing events, such as operational maintenance or application tuning.

Consequently, organizations can install, tune, maintain, upgrade and alter applications and systems to constantly match their business requirements -- without sacrificing service availability. Additionally, FullTime Software's products enable customers to slash the total cost of ownership for applications and optimize server and software investments by allowing users to leverage available server resources.

FullTime Adaptive Computing Environment

FullTime Software's solutions are built on the FullTime Adaptive Computing Environment, a software architecture that layers transparently across a company's existing infrastructure (data, applications, platforms and standard TCP/IP TCP/IP

 networks).

Its event and rules engine can sense computing events -- in applications, data, systems and networks -- and trigger the appropriate response to ensure optimum availability. Business rules concerning priority applications, service levels, etc. can be integrated within the FullTime Adaptive Computing Environment to ensure that resources respond to events based on specific business needs.

For example, if CPU CPU

utilization climbs as more users attach to a monitored server, Service Level Agreements may become endangered. FullTime proactively and transparently adapts managed application resources as appropriate to increase available capacity, ensuring that service levels are protected, and users' requests are continuously serviced.

Industry Comment

and business-to-business e-commerce, comes an increasing dependence on around-the-clock transactions to satisfy global demands," said Carolyn DiCenzo, director and principal analyst, Dataquest. "Accessibility is a foundation of e-business, and downtime is an obstacle in the viability of online commerce.

FullTime Cluster 4.0

FullTime Cluster 4.0, for Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. (R) or UNIX UNIX

environments, creates collaborative clusters of server resources across platforms, networks and applications to provide optimum service level availability of applications and data. The software supports up to 100 nodes in a cluster and allows customers to manage groups of resources, even across multiple tiers or cross-platform nodes.

With Full-Time Cluster's built-in load balancing The fine tuning of a computer system, network or disk subsystem in order to more evenly distribute the data and/or processing across available resources. For example, in clustering, load balancing might distribute the incoming transactions evenly to all servers, or it might redirect them  capabilities, customers can relocate resource groups based on events such as time-of-day or load fluctuations.

For example, if a business requires more resources supporting e-business applications every Friday afternoon, the customer can create a rule to tell FullTime to proactively move the e-business applications to the server with the most available processing capacity at that time.

FullTime Cluster 4.0 for Windows NT will be available in July 1998 with prices starting at $10,000 for an entry-level, two-node cluster A two-node cluster is the minimal high-availability cluster that can be built. Should one node fail (for a hardware or software problem), the other must acquire the resources being previously managed by the failed node, in order to re-enable access to these resources.  configuration. FullTime Awareness Modules and SDK

FullTime Awareness Modules are sets of tools designed to fine-tune FullTime Software's control of an application, database or system, such as Oracle, SAP, Lotus Notes Messaging and groupware software from IBM Lotus that was introduced in 1989 for OS/2 and later expanded to Windows, Mac, Unix, NetWare, AS/400 and S/390. Notes provides e-mail, document sharing, workflow, group discussions and calendaring and scheduling.  or Microsoft Exchange. FullTime SDK 4.0 enables developers to fine-tune FullTime Awareness Modules or create new Awareness Modules for custom or proprietary applications.

FullTime Awareness Modules are expected to be available via FullTime Professional Services, or through certified business partners, in July. Pre-packaged modules will be available later in Q3 1998. FullTime SDKs will be available coincident with platform availability.
