:FTSW) today announced that Legato Systems, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:LGTO LGTO Legato Systems (stock symbol) ) products will support FullTime's new solutions which ensure applications, data and system resources (1) In a computer system, system resources are the components that provide its inherent capabilities and contribute to its overall performance. System memory, cache memory, hard disk space, IRQs and DMA channels are examples.  are available to users during both planned and unplanned computing events.

Specifically, the companies are working together to deliver solutions to joint customers that better manage system and application resources during the most common of planned computing events -- network backup. Legato NetWorker will be one of the first applications to be supported by FullTime's new Awareness Modules.

Today's announcement builds upon the joint marketing, sales and development agreement announced March 16, 1998, in which the companies agreed to share named OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  accounts and help each other deliver integrated solutions to mutual customers. Legato and FullTime Software will continue to distribute their own solutions.

Both companies will promote a complementary solution based on FullTime's new product line, including FullTime Cluster(TM) 4.0; FullTime Data(TM) 4.0; FullTime Awareness Modules(TM); FullTime Enterprise(TM) 4.0; and FullTime Department(TM) 4.0. These new products broaden FullTime's solution set to ensure uptime not only during unplanned computing events -- such as system, application or network failure -- but also during planned computing events -- such as operational maintenance. (See today's separate release for details.)

FullTime's new Awareness Module for Legato NetWorker will provide sensors and actuators to trigger activities for the application -- acting together with rules for managing and controlling Legato NetWorker across a continuum of service events. Awareness Modules give users greater control over their computing infrastructures, and provide richer collaborative capabilities among applications. Additionally, FullTime will support Legato GEMS framework. (See Legato's July 6th release entitled "Legato Systems Announces Legato OpenGEMS Development Partner Program" for details.)

"The FullTime Awareness Module planned for Legato NetWorker will make FullTime's solutions literally 'Legato NetWorker-aware,' ensuring that our joint customers' installations will be more efficient," said David R. Malmstedt, senior vice president, field operations, FullTime Software. "Working with the Legato sales force, we will continue to identify mutual customers and deliver complementary solutions that offer more comprehensive capabilities."

"FullTime's ability to ensure uptime during planned system backups is a key component of Legato's comprehensive solution for customers who need to proactively manage application and data availability Refers to the degree to which data can be instantly accessed. The term is mostly associated with service levels that are set up either by the internal IT organization or that may be guaranteed by a third party datacenter or storage provider.  across the total spectrum of computing events," said Nora Denzel, senior vice president of Legato Systems, Inc.
