Full Senate Debate for Sotomayor Likely by Next Week.A full senate vote for President Obama's Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor is likely to be held the week of August 3, just ahead of the Senate's summer recess after a panel voted mostly along partiesan lienes to advance her nomination today. The full Senate will probably not begin debate on Sotomayor's confirmation until next week, although a schedule has not been determined, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told the Washington Post. The Senate begins its summer recess on August 9. On Tuesday, a Senate Judicieary Committee voted 13-6 in favor of Sotomayor to become an associate justice of the Supreme Court. The vote is being held nearly two weeks after the Senate questioned her for two and a half days on her judicial views. |
