Designed to work with Fulcrum's proven SearchServer(tm) information-retrieval software, SearchBuilder EXPRESS allows corporate IT departments and end users to build and deploy custom information-retrieval solutions in minutes, without having to tap into professional programming resources. SearchBuilder EXPRESS is the first product to introduce to the SearchServer family the ability for users and administrators to create saved, reusable re·use

SearchBuilder EXPRESS completes Fulcrum's family of SearchBuilder development toolkits, a product family that includes products for Visual Basic, PowerBuilder, and Visual C++. Fulcrum will be demonstrating SearchBuilder EXPRESS at AIIM (Association for Information and Image Management International, Silver Spring, MD, www.aiim.org) A membership organization founded in 1943 devoted to creating industry standards and disseminating information about the document management industry.  in Chicago from April 1 to 3 (booth 2242).

"Our leadership in providing the industry's best information-retrieval development tools has long been recognized," said Peter Eddison, vice president of marketing at Fulcrum. "With SearchBuilder EXPRESS, we go a step farther; we provide an easy-to-use tool for IT departments and end users that have no development expertise. SearchBuilder EXPRESS fulfills our vision - to provide information-retrieval for the entire enterprise - in two ways. By reducing the time and resources required to get an information-retrieval solution off the ground, it lowers or removes barriers to entry. It also lets organizations leverage the investments they have already made in developing custom, Fulcrum-based solutions. They can use SearchBuilder EXPRESS to give a broader community of users access to the strategic information in these line-of-business applications."

Key Benefits

Support for reusable SearchObjects - SearchBuilder EXPRESS is the first product to introduce to the SearchServer family the notion of saved, reusable queries, called Fulcrum SearchObjects. Administrators can use SearchBuilder EXPRESS to create Fulcrum SearchObjects, and store them on the server for public use, which allows administrators to hide the details of complex queries from novice users and which allows important queries to be repeated. End users can also create and customize SearchObjects with SearchBuilder EXPRESS, and save them locally for reuse reuse - Using code developed for one application program in another application. Traditionally achieved using program libraries. Object-oriented programming offers reusability of code via its techniques of inheritance and genericity. . SearchObjects can be saved in a directory of useful queries, as icons on the Windows desktop to facilitate regular or frequent use, and they can be distributed by e-mail, so that users can more easily share relevant information.

Full-featured information retrieval information retrieval

Recovery of information, especially in a database stored in a computer. Two main approaches are matching words in the query against the database index (keyword searching) and traversing the database using hypertext or hypermedia links.
 - SearchBuilder EXPRESS offers comprehensive search capabilities, including full support for Boolean operators One of the Boolean logic operators such as AND, OR and NOT. , phrase searching, date ranges and wild cards Symbols used to represent any value when selecting specific files. In DOS, Windows and Unix, the asterisk (*) represents any collection of characters, and the question mark (?) represents one single character. In SQL, the percent sign (%) and underscore (_) are used for matching text. . It also takes advantage of the advanced linguistic tools provided with SearchServer 3.0, including enhanced thesaurus support, and root-word stemming. Based on Intelliscope(tm) technology licensed from Inso Corporation, these linguistic tools extend the powerful statistical analysis inherent in Fulcrum's product. Search results can be ranked by relevance to the user's query, or by user-defined criteria.

Ease of use - SearchBuilder EXPRESS allows novice users to conduct natural-language searches and freeform free·form

They can also automatically view and scroll To continuously move forward, backward or sideways through the text and images on screen or within a window. Scrolling implies continuous and smooth movement, a line, character or pixel at a time, as if the data were on a paper scroll being rolled behind the screen. See auto scroll.  through the list of words indexed in a particular field, so that they can quickly determine the scope of the document collection and identify key search-terms.

Ease of implementation - Fulcrum SearchBuilder EXPRESS allows corporate IT departments to implement SearchServer solutions without the need to invest in professional development resources, and it allows organizations that have invested in custom, line-of-business applications, to extend the reach of these Fulcrum-based solutions. For systems integrators An individual or organization that builds systems from a variety of diverse components. With increasing complexity of technology, more customers want complete solutions to information problems, requiring hardware, software and networking expertise in a multivendor environment. , the product has been designed with an open back-end In software, an Open Back-End is a piece of functionality which is used by various Front-End applications. For example, the Open Back-End might be a big number crunching Server which is used by various customers which each have their own bespoke Front end, API or GUI.  which allows for further customization and integration with other software products, like document management systems or call-tracking software.

Rapid prototyping Building a part one layer at a time using a method of additive fabrication such as 3D printing. Such parts are used for concept modeling to determine if the product design meets the customer's expectations.  - SearchBuilder EXPRESS is an ideal prototyping tool because it allows IT departments to implement a solution and simultaneously solicit user feedback without investing significant time or energy in custom application development.

Multi-Object Viewer - SearchBuilder EXPRESS employs a multi-object viewer, based on leading Outside In(tm) viewer technology licensed from Inso Corporation. Documents - including the common word-processing packages and most popular office formats, like Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel files and text in common database formats - can be viewed fully rendered, and with search-term highlighting and forward and backward hit-term navigation. Users are also able to launch the native authoring tool, or to download documents from the result list for local use and editing.

SearchServer inside - Like all Fulcrum products, at the core of SearchBuilder EXPRESS is Fulcrum SearchServer - advanced information-retrieval software for the entire enterprise, built on industry standards. Fulcrum's proven, powerful software allows users throughout an organization to benefit from high-speed searches that use server-based indexes. Compliance to standards means that SearchServer can be employed in information-retrieval applications that combine seamlessly with customers' existing information systems. As companion products, Fulcrum provides SearchBuilder(tm) development toolkits, and Fulcrum Surfboard(tm), a product that search-enables Internet and Intranet sites.
