Fujitsu introduces first cellular phone with dial tone; Company introduces first cellular phone to operate like a home cordless phone.

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 1, 1995--For the many people who still have the clock flashing "12:00" on their VCR's, Fujitsu may have just discovered the cure for technophobia: the new Personna cellular phone -- the first cellular with a familiar dial tone and cordless phone simplicity.

With the introduction of the new Personna cellular phone to selected markets this spring, Fujitsu's cellular division is addressing the growing consumer market of new cellular users who want a phone that is as easy to use as their home phone.

"Many of the new cellular subscribers say they want technology that makes the phones easier to use, not more complicated," said Jeff Steel, Fujitsu cellular division's manager of marketing and sales development. "The Personna redefines the cellular interface to make it operate like a cordless phone. The Personna is so easy to use that in an emergency, consumers can hand this phone to a child with the confidence that he can operate it easily."

Fujitsu's Personna's cordless phone style operation is another in a series of cellular innovations by Fujitsu. In 1993, Fujitsu introduced the PCX, the world's smallest handheld cellular flip phone and the first with a built-in pager and voice chip. To complement its Stylus line, Fujitsu also was the first to offer an AA alkaline battery pack, an accessory that has been added to many other manufacturers' lines.

Key features of the Fujitsu Personna for the consumer user include a one-touch (911) emergency key for instant access to emergency services and two "smart keys," one that can be set to automatically dial the home or office, and a voice mail smart key to access your cellular voice mail. Additional features include: compact size to fit in a pocket, purse or briefcase; rubberized grips for secure, comfortable hold; microphone/earpiece accessory option for hands-free operation; large keys for easy access; 11 one-touch speed dialing memory locations; stay-alive power that allows you to change batteries while continuing a conversation; and any-key answer that is operable even with the flip closed.

Accessories such as the microphone/earpiece and belt-clip option provide users hands-free operation of the phone in the car and on the job. For instance, a person in the construction industry would be able to review blue prints or hold a map while engaging in a conversation through the microphone.
