ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 1999--

:MOT) Internet and Networking Group announced today they have signed a memorandum of understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment.  that allows Fujitsu to include Motorola's Vanguard(R) series of integrated access routers in its portfolio of network integration solutions. Fujitsu, which brings to the relationship its expertise in designing, implementing, and managing voice and data networks throughout North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere. , is expected to become an authorized channel partner of Motorola in July.

The Vanguard multiservice convergence router includes sophisticated voice switching capabilities that make it possible for any voice system, such as Fujitsu's popular F9600(R) PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).  system, to be connected to any other voice system over a wide area network (WAN).

The Vanguard product provides a single network solution for transporting voice over Internet Protocol See Internet and TCP/IP.

Using Motorola's Vanguard product, Fujitsu enables customers to route voice, video, and data traffic over a packet WAN. Fujitsu voice over packet solutions combine a customer's separate voice and data networks into a single converged infrastructure, generating cost savings and freeing up extra bandwidth for new applications. By eliminating separate voice lines and long-distance charges, for example, customers can save substantially on recurring network costs.

"Motorola adds a more flexible and capable product to our voice over packet solutions, allowing us to provide cost-effective wide area network solutions that meet our customers' needs," said Bill Miller, vice president of data connectivity and broadband services for Fujitsu Business Communication Systems. "Today, customers are implementing voice over frame relay solutions. However, as customer demands dictate the need to deploy voice over IP (Internet Protocol), the packet capability of the Vanguard product enables us to migrate our solutions in that direction."

"We are extremely pleased that Fujitsu Business Communication Systems has seen the value of our Vanguard product and will be using it in building and enhancing customer networks," said Walt Prusak, vice president of marketing and product line management for Motorola ING. "The interoperability of the Vanguard should be invaluable for Fujitsu as they design and build networks for their customers."
