, NY. The DynaMO 1300U2 introduction marks Fujitsu's first Hi-Speed USB 2.0 compliant magneto-optical (MO) drive with heightened performance targeting PC end-users, a target market segment for Fujitsu removable storage products over the course of the year.

Furthermore, with Fujitsu's new DynaMO 1300U2 product, Fujitsu brings the benefits of magneto-optical storage technology -- namely, durability, and reliability and now, the high-performance features of Hi-Speed USB 2.0 -- to the PC market. The DynaMO 1300U2 brings the new Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface to Fujitsu's MO technology product line, which has long provided high-capacity removable storage to the telecommunications and medical industrial markets, as well as to Macintosh computer users worldwide.

Additionally, Fujitsu MO users can purchase 2.3GB MO disks for only $20 each. Fujitsu's low cost media combined with competitively priced drives -- 1.3GB DynaMO kits under $300 and 2.3GB DynaMO kits under $330 -- make MO technology one of the most cost-effective removable storage options.

"Fujitsu is focused on bringing the PC market an affordable and proven removable storage solution with the speed and capacity to thrive in today's demanding PC environment," said Dan Dalton, director of optical storage products at Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "In today's world, the need for ultra-reliable removable media In computer storage, removable media refers to storage media which can be removed from its reader device, conferring portability on the data it carries. A removable drive is a reader device for such media.  solutions for today's professionals has increased, applications have become more robust, data continues to accumulate on desktop's worldwide -- and all speak to the need for a reliable backup and archiving solution with a capacity point equal to the task."

DynaMO 1300U2 Product Highlights

Fujitsu's new rugged and reliable DynaMO 1300U2 with Hi-Speed USB 2.0 provides 1.3GB of removable, rewritable data capacity on a single 3.5-inch disk. The drive provides a 23ms seek time, 2MB buffer, and 120,000 hour MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) The average time a component works without failure. It is the number of failures divided by the hours under observation.

. Furthermore, the new Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, implemented on Fujitsu's new DynaMO 1300U2, allows data transfer speeds up to 60 MB/sec -- 40 times faster than the data transfer using the USB 1.1 interface.

DynaMO 2300 Internal Kit Product Highlights

With fifth-generation MO technology from Fujitsu, the 2.3GB MO internal drive nearly doubles the capacity of its predecessor. The 2.3GB internal drives provide 19ms seek time, data transfer rates up to 8MB/sec and an 8MB buffer, making it ideal for intensive audio, video and graphic applications. In addition, MO removable storage solutions help facilitate high-speed file backup for commercial systems such as telephone/PBX, medical and data acquisition systems.
