Fujitsu Unveils Four-Way Blade Server for Power-Hungry Data Centers; Company Offers Most Diverse Blade Portfolio in the Market.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Fujitsu Computer Systems today introduced the world's most compact four-way SCSI SCSI
in full Small Computer System Interface

Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB.
server blade One blade in a blade server. See blade server. , the PRIMERGY(R) BX600 blade server A server architecture that houses multiple server modules ("blades") in a single chassis. It is widely used in datacenters to save space and improve system management. Either self-standing or rack mounted, the chassis provides the power supply, and each blade has its own CPU, memory and . Offering exceptional performance and flexibility, the system can easily handle the demands of modern corporate data centers, Internet service providers Internet service provider (ISP)

Company that provides Internet connections and services to individuals and organizations. For a monthly fee, ISPs provide computer users with a connection to their site (see data transmission), as well as a log-in name and password.
 and application service providers.

Each blade can accommodate up to four Intel(R) Xeon(TM) MP processors, 16 GB of ECC (1) (Error-Correcting Code) A type of memory that corrects errors on the fly. See ECC memory.

(2) (Elliptic Curve Cryptography) A public key cryptography method that provides fast decryption and digital signature processing.
DDR-SDRAM DDR-SDRAM - Double Data Rate Random Access Memory  (PC2100) and two hot-plug Ultra320 SCSI hard drives. They come equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  ports and can be upgraded to include 4 x 2 GB Fibre Channel (FC) interfaces.

The chassis holds up to five four-way blades or up to 10 two-way blades. Since the four-way blade fits in the same chassis as the dual processor blade, they can be mixed and matched accordingly. Up to 30 four-way blades fit in a 46U 19-inch rack, enabling IT managers to save valuable floor space in their data center. The chassis has redundant components for reliable operation, and redundant management hardware for easy and effective administration. The PRIMERGY ServerView Management Suite, included with delivery, ensures trouble-free system installation and configuration.

"With today's announcement of the new PRIMERGY BX600 four-way blade server, we now have the most diverse blade portfolio on the market, from an ultra-compact PRIMERGY BX300 blade server to the robust four-way PRIMERGY BX600 blade server," said Richard McCormack, vice president of product and solutions marketing for Fujitsu Computer Systems.

The PRIMERGY BX600 blade server is designed primarily for mid-tier application areas while its smaller and more compact sibling, the PRIMERGY BX300 blade server, is ideal for front-end applications.

). Additional four-way capable blades start under $8,500 (USD).

About TRIOLE

The TRIOLE strategy is based on real life customer experiences and three core technological areas in which Fujitsu has leading-edge expertise: integration, virtualization An umbrella term for enhancing a computer's ability to do work. Following are the ways virtualization is used.

Hardware Virtualization
Partitioning the computer's memory into separate and isolated "virtual machines" simulates multiple machines within one physical computer.
and automation. Virtualization separates applications and data from dedicated systems; automation refers to the autonomic self-healing and adaptation of IT infrastructure to meet changing business needs; and integration is the fast, low cost and low risk implementation of those technologies across the full IT infrastructure spectrum, including server, storage, network and middleware elements. Fujitsu has applied these core concepts to develop pre-verified solution templates that will serve as functional building blocks to speed the construction of highly reliable open-system installations.
