Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Selects DataCore SANsymphony.

Business/Technology Editors

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2001

DataCore SANsymphony offers Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd:

-- A dynamic and flexible storage environment

-- Added functionality, flexibility and ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot). , essential for modern storage environments

DataCore(TM) Software, the leading provider of storage virtualization Treating storage as a single logical entity without regard to the hierarchy of physical media that may be involved or that may change. It enables the applications to read from and write to a single pool of storage rather then individual disks, tapes and optical devices.  and network control software today announced that Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd (Fujitsu) has joined its progressive European customer base. Fujitsu is a leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions and a prime mover prime mover: see energy, sources of.

in the creation of Broadband Britain, specializing in the research and development, design and manufacture of fixed access telecommunications products and services. SANsymphony was selected to provide a more dynamic and flexible storage environment for its growing heterogeneous servers.

SANsymphony matched Fujitsu's selection criteria, by providing a solution with the ability to mirror data across sites, improve application I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device.  throughput performance and implement centralized storage management. In addition, SANsymphony offered Fujitsu the ability to integrate existing legacy storage devices into the proposed configuration, achieving maximum ROI for these arrays.

Ian Batten, IT Director, Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, commented: "SANsymphony is a good match to our requirement - it makes dynamic sharing of RAID arrays trivial, performance is enhanced and administration is easy. We have a scalable way forward, which has more than enough performance for our purposes and appears feature-rich. Storage virtualization is a secure framework for growth. We also find that the commodity server hardware and disk prices are acceptable, switch prices are reasonable and HBA (Host Bus Adapter) See host adapter.  prices are falling. These figures combine to make SANsymphony much cheaper than a monolithic solution, and strongly influenced our selection."

Deployment of SANsymphony has afforded Fujitsu a number of benefits including an easy to use centralized management platform for storage allocation Noun 1. storage allocation - (computer science) the assignment of particular areas of a magnetic disk to particular data or instructions
allocation
. Further advantages include a high performance storage environment capable of integrating existing and future storage devices non-disruptively and a cost-effective means of creating a scalable and highly available platform on which to base future storage growth.

"As with so many other large organizations, Fujitsu required a solution for its rapidly growing storage requirements. The company's previous environment, a combination of NAS (1) See network access server.

SANsymphony has gone live with dramatic improvements in performance, administration and cost. This is another example of how SANsymphony can help organizations evolve from restrictive, expensive solutions to a virtual environment which offers excellent ROI, flexibility and hardware component choice."

Fujitsu's commissioning of SANsymphony's storage virtualization solution has led to further plans for expanding the solution to other applications. The areas under assessment include implementation of backups based on SANsymphony Snapshot, automation of alternate-path fail-over for application servers based on DataCore's Solaris solution, inter-storage domain server mirroring and diversifying the RAID environment to establish interoperability.
