Fujitsu Technology Solutions Delivers Powerful New PRIMERGY Server Models for Internet Environments; Ultra Compact, Rack-Optimized Design Provides Cost Savings to ASPs and ISPs.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2000

Fujitsu Technology Solutions today announced three new Intel(R) Architecture-based PRIMERGY(R) servers designed to support the growing needs of Internet Service Providers Internet service provider (ISP)

(ISPs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs) as they roll out data-intensive Internet applications and Web-related commerce.

The new PRIMERGY servers reflect Fujitsu's strategy to deliver rack-optimized products that provide low cost and save space. The TS120 and TS220 Web server platforms and the ES320 application server are now available, and are a perfect fit for ISPs and ASPs whose small- to medium-sized customers require the same service level guarantees offered to larger customers.

"Fujitsu Technology Solutions has an extremely hot idea, and the window-of-opportunity is wide open right now," said Donald Haback, partner, Matterhorn Group. "We think the PRIMERGY rack-optimized servers will fit directly with the expressed needs of the ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

(2) (Internet Service Provider) An organization that provides access to the Internet. Connection to the user is provided via dial-up, ISDN, cable, DSL and T1/T3 lines.

For ASPs and ISPs, the TS220 offers quick response time and lower TCO while providing generous configuration upgradeability and flexibility.

The new PRIMERGY ES320 multi-purpose application server has a rack-optimized 4U footprint for the data center. For the office, an attractive floor standing version is also available. With the horsepower to satisfy most demanding compute environments, the ES320 offers two 1-GHz Intel Pentium III processors, 4 gigabytes of memory, and up to 192 GB of internal disk storage. It features Ultra160 SCSI SCSI

"As we continue to offer more powerful server options, it's important that we also remain focused on the varied and changing requirements of our customers," said Mr. Tatsushi Miyazawa, senior vice president and group president Computer Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "The use of servers is changing, they are performing a variety of new and extended roles. Data Center managers are also discovering that in revised form factors, server platforms can improve total cost of ownership as they replace previous more propriety processors and network devices."
