Fujitsu Software Corporation launches TeamWARE Office 5.1 -- an advanced and sophisticated intranet groupware product.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 1997--Fujitsu Software Corporation (FSC) today announced the launch of a new intranet groupware environment, TeamWARE Office 5.1, offering full-featured, modular collaborative functionality that supports both the new intranet and the more traditional Windows client-server environments.

It also addresses the control and scaleability issues which have previously prevented commercial users from adopting Internet/intranet e-mail and collaboration tools as corporate standards.

FSC's TeamWARE Office 5.1 offers small to mid-sized companies an affordable, turn-key solution for Internet e-mail and collaboration. It offers a manageable and open solution, supporting the end user's choice of client, providing an ideal option for Internet Service Providers.

For large corporations, TeamWARE Office 5.1 provides a scaleable, secure, robust and modular, business critical environment for communication and collaborative document management. Advanced features include full X.400(88) connectivity, LDAP/X.500 directory integration and sophisticated full text searching, allowing corporations to mix and match their environment according to exact requirements.

TeamWARE Office 5.1 provides an electronic mail and messaging system, a suite of groupware applications, and a directory, which together form a well-integrated system:

-- TeamWARE Mail: a versatile electronic mail application that provides interpersonal messaging via a variety of mail protocols, mailboxes with a flexible folder structure and a suite of programming interfaces to messaging services;

-- TeamWARE Forum: an electronic bulletin board system for discussions and information distribution. Messages and associated replies can be linked into discussion chains. Discussions can be closed, resumed and outlined. Forums are protected by access control;

-- TeamWARE Library: a document management system for storing and retrieving electronic documents. A document consists of customizable property attributes and a number of associated files. When searching documents in a library, search criteria can be defined both in terms of document profile information and actual document contents. Libraries, folders and individual documents are protected by access control;

-- TeamWARE Calendar: a time management tool which helps users to organize their personal time, plan meetings and book shared resources such as meeting rooms or common equipment;

-- TeamWARE SearchPro: a full text lexical search engine for TeamWARE Library and

-- TeamWARE Forum incorporating Fulcrum(TM) technology.

TeamWARE Office 5.1 interoperates with third-party messaging and groupware systems using key formal and industry standard protocols. It supports Post Office Protocol (POP3) and Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP4), the standard protocols for Internet electronic mail client applications; Simple Message Transport/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (SMTP/MIME) and X.400, the standard mail protocols for electronic mail transmissions; and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) and X.500, the standard directory integration protocols for accessing address information from external directory systems.

Among its many enterprise-class features, TeamWARE Office 5.1 offers scaleability, supporting thousands of users through sophisticated multi-server technology. The directory contains the intranet user directories that store user phone, fax, physical location and e-mail address information.

Independent hierarchical organizations can be managed in one physical TeamWARE Office directory, and advanced billing features allow costs to be directed to their corresponding source. The directory can exchange information with other directory systems such as X.500, and follows the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP).

Windows-based user and system administration tools enable either centralized or decentralized system administration, on-line backup from any desktop in the LAN and user quota limitations.

Availability and Pricing

TeamWARE Office 5.1 is currently available. The servers will run on Windows NT V3.51 and Windows NT V4.0, Sun Solaris V2.5 support will follow shortly, and other major platforms will be made available throughout 1997. All major Windows client platforms are supported. Suggested retail price for a five-user license of all TeamWARE Office 5.1 modules is $1,495.
