It permits manipulation of remote message folders (mailboxes), in a way that is functionally equivalent to local mailboxes. (IMAP IMAP - Internet Message Access Protocol ) and Multi Purpose Internet Mail See Internet e-mail service. Extension (MIME) support for Internet electronic mail, Fujitsu Software Corporation's TeamWARE group is introducing the enhanced version of its Embla electronic mail application. TeamWARE Embla 2.0 will be available for free download from the TeamWARE web site (http://www.teamw.com) as well as selected third party sites. A commercial version of Embla 2.0 with extra features will also be available. TeamWARE Embla 1.0 was the first commercially available Windows client to support multimedia MIME and IMAP. The new version, TeamWARE Embla 2.0, incorporates advanced e-mail application features, including support for the IMAP4 standard that makes the handing of e-mail as convenient and accessible in the office or on the road as it is at home. IMAP enables users to define mail folders residing on a server and access mail folders from any PC. TeamWARE Embla also supports multiple users on a single PC. This standard allows users access from any location and to share this access across workgroups, while private mail folders are maintained separately on a PC. IMAP will also allow users to select and download specific parts of messages, a benefit offering mobile users the option of access to the text part of a message while securely retaining attachments to be handled later. "TeamWARE Group is one of the first commercial vendors to support the IMAP4 standard, which further strengthens our position as a leading provider of Internet e-mail applications," said Dennis Long, senior vice president of sales and marketing for TeamWARE Group. He added, "IMAP4 will allow users even greater flexibility, security and reliability -- functions essential for today's office-based or portable e-mail user." Automatic MIME Encoding TeamWARE Embla 2.0 supports the multimedia e-mail standard MIME, enabling users to send and receive document and spreadsheet files, multimedia images and audio clips. The content of a mail attachment is indicated by the appropriate application icon. By double clicking on the icon, the user will open the attachment in its native application. MIME enables different types of files to be attached to a single mail message. TeamWARE Embla performs MIME encoding automatically. Should the recipients's mail system not support MIME, users can select the defacto standard, UUENCODE See UUcoding.
