Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2004

Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  Corp. (Nasdaq:MENT) today announced the licensing of its A-XGMAC(TM) 10 Gigabit Ethernet An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.  Media Access Controller (MAC) by Fujitsu Laboratories of America, Inc. ). Mentor Graphics is a leading provider of communications intellectual property (IP), and its Ethernet MAC products are the building blocks for system-on-chip (SoC) designs used in today's highly integrated communications and networking systems. 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology enables the high data-transfer rates, up to 10Gbps, required for bandwidth-intensive broadband allocations.

"We are at the forefront of development and investment in communications and networking products leveraging the bandwidth capabilities of 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology," said Akira Hattori, vice president of Advanced Interconnect Technology of Fujitsu Laboratories of America. "We selected Mentor Graphics as our 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC provider because of its history and reputation for delivering proven, reusable IP solutions and its commitment to industry standards and certification."

Recently, Fujitsu Microelectronics America and Fujitsu Laboratories of America announced the industry's first single-chip 10Gbps Ethernet Switch A device that connects clients and servers to each other in an Ethernet network. See switched Ethernet.  IC, which enables designers to develop compact and cost-effective switches that deliver maximum performance. The Mentor Graphics(R) 10Gbps Ethernet MAC enables enhanced functionality for this switch IC, performing quality packet transmission and reception. The Ethernet MAC supports the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.3ae standard and includes test benches to ensure correct operation when run on different simulator software and platforms for quality assurance.

"Fujitsu Laboratories of America has adopted Mentor Graphics cores to take advantage of our proven track record of successful silicon implementations," said Michael Kaskowitz, general manager, Intellectual Property Division, Mentor Graphics. "Customers leverage our extensive knowledge of the standard and our compliance experience to reduce their risk of failure. We will continue to lead the development of standards-based communication IP cores, with 10Gbps Ethernet as a critical focus."
