Fujitsu Introduces SCSI Duplex Scanner.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 1997--Fujitsu Computer Products of America, the market leader in mid-range scanners, today introduced a SCSI SCSI
in full Small Computer System Interface

Once common standard for connecting peripheral devices (disks, modems, printers, etc.) to small and medium-sized computers. SCSI has given way to faster standards, such as Firewire and USB.

The M3093DG, introduced here at AIIM (Association for Information and Image Management International, Silver Spring, MD, www.aiim.org) A membership organization founded in 1943 devoted to creating industry standards and disseminating information about the document management industry.  97, is the newest addition to Fujitsu's market-leading M3093 family and is designed to meet the high-volume needs of departmental and workgroup imaging environments where reliability and image quality are key to scanning mission-critical documents.

As the price/performance leader in scanning solutions, Fujitsu has designed the M3093DG to offer an unrivaled feature set to the mid-range SCSI duplex market. The M3093DG scans in simplex mode at 27 pages per minute (ppm), or 54 images per minute (ipm) in duplex. The new scanner includes a 50-page automatic document feeder In multifunction or all-in-one printers, fax machines, photocopiers and scanners, Automatic Document Feeder or ADF is a feature which takes several pages and feeds the paper one page at a time into the scanner, allowing the user to scan (and thereby copy, print, or fax)  (ADF (1) (Application Development Facility) An IBM programmer-oriented mainframe application generator that runs under IMS.

(2) (Automatic Document Feeder) A paper stacker that feeds one sheet of paper at a time into the unit.
) which provides advanced paper handling and faster processing of a large variety of paper types.

"The M3093DG is Fujitsu's first mid-range, duplex scanner to combine a SCSI interface SCSI interface - SCSI adaptor  connection with the superior features demanded by work group and departmental document imaging," said John Hoye, director of Fujitsu Computer Products of America's imaging products group. "Total SCSI system costs are more economical and SCSI offers the added advantage of being an open standard interface."

The SCSI interface has quickly become a popular connection to scanners, and other peripherals, thanks in part to faster PCs. According to according to

The new scanner from Fujitsu adds SCSI support to the M3093 duplex family, which also supports RS-232C and video interfaces. The M3093DE, which was introduced in January, was one of the first scanners to offer RS-232C and video interface support for simple connections to leading imaging products offered by Kofax, Xionics and Seaport, among others.

, the M3093DG offers resolutions of up to 600 dpi in both duplex and simplex modes. High-resolution 600 dpi scanning is achieved through the addition of one 8MB standard 72-pin single in-line memory module See SIMM.

The M3093DG also comes with Fujitsu's ScanRight Image Kit. This enhancement package contains support software and an image-capture utility, as well as a straight-forward informational guide for simplifying installation.

ET Features Standard

The M3093DG includes Fujitsu's advanced image Enhancement Technology (ET) as a standard feature. Fujitsu's ET enables customers to create scanned images with highly accurate optical character recognition optical character recognition (OCR), method for the machine-reading of typeset, typed, and, in some cases, hand-printed letters, numbers, and symbols using optical sensing and a computer.  (OCR OCR

) read rates, increasing productivity and reducing the necessity of rescanning. ET also includes the Imaging Processing Circuit 2D (IPC (1) (InterProcess Communication) The exchange of data between one program and another either within the same computer or over a network. It implies a protocol that guarantees a response to a request. ) as an option which allows for single-pass scanning of documents with both text and photos and automatic contrast adjustment for text lines that vary in thickness. IPC 2D can also increase the accuracy of OCR by "cleaning up" copied or faxed documents and evening out the varying reflective characteristics of inks. The optional red lamp background filter extracts data from hard-to-scan pre-printed forms with red backgrounds.

No Excuses, Two Business Day Replacement

Fujitsu stands behind its imaging scanner products with the No Excuses warranty program designed to increase the cost-effectiveness and reliability of all of Fujitsu's scanners. No Excuses provides purchasers of the M3093DG with a replacement scanner in two business days if they experience problems with their scanner during the first year of operation.

Pricing and Availability

The M3093DG has a list price of $6,495 and will be available in May.
