Fujitsu Introduces New F2MC Series Microcontrollers for Home Audio, CD-RW, DVD-ROM Devices.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2000

Includes Low-voltage (1.8V), High-speed 16-bit Models and

Low-voltage (2.4V) Model with Internal Flash Memory

Fujitsu Microelectronics, Inc. (FMI FMI Fondo Monetario Internacional (Spanish: International Monetary Fund)

) today introduced three new products in the F2MC(R) (Fujitsu Flexible Microcontroller) series of system control microcomputers.

The new MB90473 and MB90474 are 16-bit microcontrollers with 1.8V low-power operation, suitable for designs such as digital AV devices. Model MB90F474, also a low-voltage (2.4V) 16-bit microcontroller, features built-in flash memory. All three products will be available this quarter.

The new MB90473 and MB90474 are the industry's first 16-bit microcontrollers to run at 1.8V, enabling longer battery life and decreased power consumption. They are ideally suited for controlling AV devices such as home audio and silicon audio, and for personal computer peripherals such as CD-RW (CD-ReWritable) The only rewritable CD technology. CD-RW disks look like other CD media, but with close inspection, they have a more polished surface with a very dark blue-gray cast.  and DVD-ROM DVD-ROM: see digital versatile disc.

devices. In addition, the MB90474 has a high-capacity memory (256KB ROM, 16KB RAM).

Both models have internal clock multiplier circuits, which are set at one to four times the speed (in increments of integers) of the standard cycle oscillator oscillator

Mechanical or electronic device that produces a back-and-forth periodic motion. A pendulum is a simple mechanical oscillator that swings with a constant amplitude, requiring the addition of energy at each swing only to compensate for the energy lost because of air
. Thus, the internal operating cycles of the microcontroller can be set at a high value -- even if a low-price, low-cycle standard oscillator is used with it.

The newly developed model MB90F474 is the industry's first low-voltage (2.4V), 256-kilobyte microcontroller equipped with internal flash memory. Because microcontrollers with internal flash memory can easily handle program modifications and enable memory expansion, they can be used in a wide range of devices.

Model MB90F474 also has built-in booster circuits in the flash memory, so it operates on a single power source. This makes lower costs, smaller devices and simpler power source designs possible.

Since 1985, Fujitsu has been offering F2MC microcontrollers for consumer devices. As it works to further enhance the F2MC line-up for digital AV devices and automobile information terminals, Fujitsu aims to continue its industry leadership in developing lower voltage and higher performance microcontrollers.
