Fujitsu Goes Linux; TeamWARE Office 5.3 Edition 2 to Support Linux Platform.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 1999--

Fujitsu Software Corporation announced today that its TeamWARE Office 5.3 will now support the Linux platform.

The new product, developed by Fujitsu Group in Japan, will be available in the Japanese market starting December 1, to be followed by a global release in first quarter of year 2000. TeamWARE Office 5.3 Edition 2 will be supported on Caldera Open Linux, Red Hat Linux and Turbo Linux.

"Fujitsu believes that new operating environments, in personal computing especially in the emerging Linux alternative, is today a viable solution platform for many of our customers," said Maeyama, the President of Fujitsu Software Operations. "Providing software on Linux is therefore a logical step." Other TeamWARE products are planned to be made available for Linux as well.

Fujitsu Group is one of the largest vendors in the IT industry, and its TeamWARE Office suite -- a set of groupware applications that includes e-mail, time and resource scheduling, discussion forums, and document management and retrieval functions -- is installed in over 2 million seats worldwide. TeamWARE Group, a Finland-based subsidiary of Fujitsu Group, will distribute the product in Europe and Fujitsu Software Corporation in San Jose will handle U.S. distribution.

Linux Market Growing in Importance

Fujitsu is one of the first major groupware brands to recognize the Linux market, which is expected to grow at a compounded rate of 25 percent per year between now and 2003, according to International Data Corporation (IDC). Fujitsu's support of Linux will allow companies the choice of administering their enterprise applications on the low-cost operating system.

Native Linux support for load sharing across multiple servers is planned for later releases, which will allow the system to scale to thousands of users.
