Fujitsu Doubles FLASHWAVE 7700 Long Haul Reach.

Business Editors & High Tech Writers

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2002

FLASHWAVE(R) 7700 DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

Reinforcing a commitment to help carriers recognize additional OPEX See CAPEX.  savings, add more bandwidth and services to their network, and simplify network operations and control complexity, Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. today revealed their latest release of the FLASHWAVE 7700 long haul Long distance. Long haul implies traversing a state or a country. Contrast with short haul.  DWDM platform. The FLASHWAVE 7700 platform can now transmit 80 full-duplex 10 Gbps channels up to 1500 kilometers without regeneration, which is more than double its previous distance.

Completely interoperable The ability for one system to communicate or work with another. See interoperability.  with previous releases, this platform brings inventory economies to the long haul backbone. The FLASHWAVE 7700 `bandwidth to distance' options are the best in the industry from a single platform. Full access and flexible OADM OADM Optical (WDM) Add-Drop Multiplexer

(optical add drop multiplexing multiplexing, in communication, technique whereby two or more independent messages, or information-bearing signals, are carried by a single common medium, or channel. ) functionality at intermediate sites allows carriers to add and drop traffic where necessary to meet existing--and future--bandwidth requirements.

The small footprint, low power consumption (3.52 watts per gigabit) and high capacity (1.76 terabits per second) of the FLASHWAVE 7700 system contributes towards an overall, highly competitive cost of ownership. Additional productivity and cost benefits include the FLASHWAVE 7700 Self Tuning Network functionality, which delivers several operational advantages, including the ability to quickly turn-up a new network span, support multiple disparate services, and provision new services. These advantages dramatically reduce overhead costs overhead costs

and allow service providers to bring their network online more quickly, resulting in fast revenue-generation--a key requirement in today's competitive market.

This Self Tuning Network capability means that the FLASHWAVE 7700 platform retunes all wavelengths automatically when new wavelengths are added, thus optimizing network performance and saving valuable time, manpower and maintenance cost. This feature allows carriers to add channels whenever needed without effecting existing services. This "plug-and-play" functionality dramatically reduces service-provisioning time.

"When service providers first receive the FLASHWAVE 7700 platform, they can deploy and turn up a network on their own because of the advanced Self Tuning Network capability," says Stephen Carlton, vice president of photonic Dealing with light (photons). See photon and photonics.  product marketing for Fujitsu Network Communications. "This capability delivers significant savings from the initial system turn-up, to adding new services (wavelengths), to maintaining peak network performance. By more than doubling the distance between regeneration sites, Fujitsu again cuts CAPEX and OPEX for carriers"

The FLASHWAVE 7000 product family delivers metro, long haul and ultra long haul, high capacity DWDM solutions and comprises Fujitsu's DWDM product offerings. The FLASHWAVE 7700 platform with 176 OC-192 channels, is the highest capacity long haul DWDM system commercially available today.
