Fujitsu Delivers Netcool Ready Solution that Gives Carriers Total Control of Multi-Vendor Networks.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 2004

Integration of Fujitsu NETSMART(R) 1500 EMS with

Netcool/OMNIbus(TM) Application Simplifies Network Operations

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and networking solutions, and Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq:MUSEE), a leading provider of business and service assurance solutions, today announced that the Fujitsu NETSMART(R) 1500 Element Management System (EMS) has been certified as Netcool(R) Ready(TM). As a partner within the Micromuse Alliance Program, Fujitsu has worked closely with Micromuse to certify interoperability of the NETSMART 1500 EMS with the Netcool/OMNIbus(TM) application. Carriers who use Netcool solutions for management of hardware platforms Each hardware platform, or CPU family, has a unique machine language. All software presented to the computer for execution must be in the binary coded machine language of that CPU. Following is a list of the major hardware platforms in existence today. See platform.  from multiple vendors can now also directly control Fujitsu equipment from a central location and system.

Today's complex, multi-vendor networks rely on sophisticated EMS software from each hardware vendor to allow carriers to leverage the advanced functionality of the vendor's network platforms. The Netcool/OMNIbus application communicates with EMS platforms from Netcool Ready partners to subsequently manage and control network hardware from a wide variety of hardware vendors within a single, centralized system In telecommunications, a centralized system is one in which most communications are routed through one or more major central hubs. Such a system allows certain functions to be concentrated in the system's hubs, freeing up resources in the peripheral units. . As new features are added to these hardware platforms and their associated EMS software is updated, operations personnel can immediately take advantage of new functionality.

The integration of the NETSMART 1500 EMS with the Netcool/OMNIbus application allows operations personnel to centrally manage the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE(R) 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) and FLASHWAVE 7000 Wavelength Division Multiplexing See WDM.

Fujitsu and Micromuse will ensure continued interoperability of the software platforms by sharing release plans, arranging for periodic interoperability testing and by jointly planning interface enhancements that benefit Fujitsu and Micromuse customers.

"When the capabilities of our NETSMART 1500 EMS are combined with the advanced network surveillance tools provided within the Netcool/OMNIbus application suite, service providers gain an integrated management solution for complex, multi-vendor networks. "Centralized management and real-time monitoring of optical networks is the key to minimizing ongoing operational costs," said Darin Layman, vice president of OEMs and alliances at Micromuse. "As a member of our Alliance Program, Fujitsu will work closely with Micromuse regarding development and interoperability of our software platforms to elevate the standard for service quality through integrated optical network management."

The NETSMART 1500 EMS allows carriers to manage, provision and maintain up to 8,000 network elements from a single server. This fully integrated solution includes a comprehensive suite of element management features for quick and efficient turn-up of Ethernet, WDM, ATM and SONET services.
