Displayed images of this sort are typically composed of shades of gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest, though in  adapter -- plus several enhancements -- have been squeezed onto a single chip. The original version of VRS earned Imaging and Document Solutions Magazine's Best of Show Award at AIIM (Association for Information and Image Management International, Silver Spring, MD, www.aiim.org) A membership organization founded in 1943 devoted to creating industry standards and disseminating information about the document management industry.  '99 for its ability to automatically create unrivaled document image quality and eliminate trial-and-error scanner adjustments.

VRS is a combination of hardware and intelligent software that allows scanners to produce the highest quality images with minimum effort and small file sizes. ScanRight VRS features intelligent brightness, background removal, and edge detection. VRS corrects documents that are highly skewed skewed

"Together, ScanRight VRS and Fujitsu scanners deliver unprecedented image quality," said Don McMahan, Senior Director of Sales and Product Management for the Imaging Products Group, FCPA. "The option of VRS on our production level scanners highlights our commitment to serving customers what they want -- advanced image processing and high-quality document solutions."

"Fujitsu has once again demonstrated its commitment to unsurpassed image quality and efficient customer solutions with its latest implementation of VRS. Kofax is proud to have played a role in the success of the new 4000-series scanners," said Rick Murphy, general manager of the Image Processing Division at Kofax.

Production Scanners from Fujitsu

The M4097D and M4099D are high-quality production scanners from Fujitsu with duplex capabilities and outstanding paper handling. The M4097D-VRS offers landscape-scanning speeds up to 54ppm simplex/120ipm duplex and flexible paper handling functions, including an 11.7 x 17-inch flatbed and 100-page ADF (1) (Application Development Facility) An IBM programmer-oriented mainframe application generator that runs under IMS.

(2) (Automatic Document Feeder) A paper stacker that feeds one sheet of paper at a time into the unit.
. The M4097D scanner also offers scanning output resolutions of up to 600 dpi (VRS up to 400dpi), selectable black or white background and has a standard SCSI interface. The M4099D-VRS, a mid-volume production-level scanner, offers fast throughput landscape speeds of up to 107ppm/206ipm and a 1,000 page ADF. The scanner offers red, green, blue color dropout (1) On magnetic media, a bit that has lost its strength due to a surface defect or recording malfunction. If the bit is in an audio or video file, it might be detected by the error correction circuitry and either corrected or not, but if not, it is often not noticed by the human  and comes standard with a dual SCSI and video interface. Both scanners accommodate a wide variety of documents and paperweights in the same batch. Their duplex capabilities provide simultaneous scanning of both sides of a document using dual CCDs while the infrared double feed detection feature reduces downtime by alerting the user of a misfeed. Other features include long page scanning support, both TWAIN and ISIS support, and 10-bit internal grayscale processing (8-bit output).

The ScanCare Preventative Maintenance Program

FCPA's ScanCare preventative maintenance program provides a comprehensive customer service and support program minimizing customer downtime and reducing maintenance costs. The ScanCare program, FCPA's only factory-authorized preventative scanner maintenance program, is an easy, affordable way to extend the life and performance of FCPA scanners. The ScanCare program offers 12 months of on-site service, scheduled deliveries of scanner consumable parts, two scheduled on-site field engineer visits for cleaning, and a valuable reference guide for maximizing scanner maintenance and output quality. The ScanCare program highlights FCPA's dedication to bringing maintenance issues to the forefront of the industry.

Availability and Pricing

The M4097D-VRS has a list price of $8,995 and the M4099D-VRS has a list price of $22,995, both scanners will be available through Fujitsu authorized resellers in January. The VRS upgrade kits for the M4097D and the M4099D will be available in February, and have a list pricing of $2,495 and $3,495 respectively.
