Fujitsu Telecommunications, MetaSwitch and Efficient Networks have announced the first successful demonstration of Voice over DSL DSL

to an Efficient 8600 Next Generation Integrated Access Device An IAD is a customer premises device that provides access to wide area networks and the Internet. Specifically, it aggregates multiple channels of information including voice and data across a single shared access link to a carrier or service provider PoP (Point of Presence).  (NG-IAD NG-IAD Next Generation-Integrated Access Device ). This solution provides operators with an ideal way to deliver enhanced DSL services to both businesses and residential users, without the need for additional investments in legacy narrowband access equipment. The ability to simultaneously provide voice, data and video to end users - with guaranteed quality of service - is seen as an important technical advancement as broadband service providers converge their networks onto a single platform that supports multiple services.

"This is a very significant move forward and our ability to facilitate a viable, cost effective broadband solution is the motivation behind our FDX platform," commented Marc Curtis, Director of Network Vision for Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe. "In particular, our relationships with both MetaSwitch and Efficient have shown the benefit of our ability in taking best-of-breed solutions from this evolving market."

"Carriers need to be able to provide multiple toll-quality voice channels as part of their broadband product offerings," said Paul Brittain, European Product Manager for MetaSwitch. "The VP3000 enables carriers to deliver VoDSL without requiring any legacy Class 5 switch capacity. In conjunction with Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe and Efficient we have demonstrated a fully standards-based architecture for multi-service next-generation networks."

"Efficient's family of NG-IADs offers network providers a robust, cost-effective method to leverage their existing network infrastructure and deliver a range of broadband services to their customers," said Peter Bourne For the rally driver, see .

, Efficient Networks' vice president and general manager of integrated access. "By demonstrating seamless interoperability of the 8600 with Fujitsu's Access Concentrator and MetaSwitch's Integrated Broadband Voice Platform, we are furthering our corporate commitment to expedite delivery of enhanced DSL services to the European marketplace."
