Fujikura Announces Full Speed Fibre Channel Interface Converter and Link Module Products.SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1996--Fujikura America, Inc. today announced the availability of two new product lines of Gigabit interface cards. This announcement establishes Fujikura as a leading supplier of Fibre Channel interface modules. The two products announced today are the FLS-1062 Gigabit Interface Converter
Typical applications for the products are Fibre Channel switches Major manufacturers of Fibre Channel switches are: Brocade, Cisco, McData and Qlogic.

The FLS-1062 is a low cost optical interconnect that is ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC. X3T11 FC-PH-2, and GBIC 3.1 compliant. The product is hot-plug compatible, and designed for short wavelength, multimode fiber operation. In addition to the compact design of the FLS-1062, its reduced laser power permits Class I laser operation without Open Fiber Control (OFC) circuitry, while maintaining less than 10E-12 Bit Error Rate (BER (1) (Basic Encoding Rules) A set of encoding rules for ASN.1 notation, which is a method for defining data structures. See ASN.1. (2) (Bit Error Rate) The average number of bits transmitted in error. See BERT. 1. ) for up to one-half km. The other product announced today, the FLM-1062, is also a low cost interface that conforms to the industry standard GLM footprint and pinout. The FLM-1062 is also designed for short wavelength, multimode fiber operation. Additionally, Fujikura stated that the FLM-1062 is the only GLM currently on the market that conforms to all of the European and FCC Class B electro magnetic interference requirements. "Significantly, this has been accomplished without the use of metallic shielding or a host system chassis ground connection," said Robert Dahlgren, Fujikura Senior Optical Engineer. The FLM-1062 design incorporates 20-bit parallel TTL I/O and OFC circuitry. The electrical interface for the FLM series product is made through a 80-pin surface mount connector. Other design features of the products that make the Fujikura FLS and FLM series attractive to customers are the immunity to ESD, RF Fields and Vcc noise, and the use of low cost AlGaAs CD laser with state of the art GaAs optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC OEIC Open Ended Investment Company OEIC OptoElectronic Integrated Circuit ) receiver photodetector technologies. "The design for both of these products allows our customers to provide the end user with a very reliable and cost effective solution for their high speed data transmission needs, while utilizing the proven advantages of CD Laser technology," said Michael Morando, National Sales Manager for Fujikura America, Inc. Optical connection to both the FLS-1062 and FLM-1062 is by a duplex male SC plug, and both products can accommodate 50 and 62.5 micro-meter core diameter fiber cables. The FLS-1062 is available for delivery at this time, while the FLM-1062 is currently available in sample quantities. The projected production volume availability of the FLM-1062 will be in the first quarter of 1997. Fujikura also carries a full line of optical fiber cables for application with Fibre Channel modules as well as other data communications applications. Morando also announced that Fujikura will participate with more than 35 other companies in the Fibre Channel Loop Community (FCLC FCLC Florida Certified Landscape Contractor FCLC Fiber Channel Loop Community (promotional organization for FCAL) FCLC Fibre Channel Loop Community ) exhibit room at this years COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition). convention in Las Vegas.
