Frost & Sullivan Lauds Blue Medical Devices B.V. for Its Innovative XTRM-WAY PTCA Dilatation Catheter Launched in the European Angioplasty Catheters Market.

LONDON -- Frost & Sullivan honours Blue Medical Devices B.V. with the 2007 Award for Product Innovation in the European angioplasty catheters market. In presenting this Award, Frost & Sullivan commends the company for having distinguished itself in the market with the successful launch of the XTRM-WAY PTCA PTCA

"The XTRM XTRM Extreme  WAY PTCA dilatation catheter is a first-of-its-kind product based on an innovative technology," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Ms. Sowmya Rajagopalan.  its continued efforts in developing new technologies and products, the company holds a number of patents in the cardiology market.

With R&D being a key focus area, Blue Medical has several technologies patented and exclusively licensed in the stents and drug eluting stents field, such as the Melissa and PolyEsterAmide (PEA) bio-absorbable coatings for stents, among others. The company's focus on research in stents has played an important role in the development of the revolutionising Checker technology, upon which the XTRM-WAY PTCA dilatation catheter is based.

"This product is a result of extensive research by the company," states Ms. Rajagopalan. "Owing to findings that the flexibility of the balloon on stent delivery catheters is higher in comparison to the normal PTCA catheter, Blue Medical created the XTRM-WAY PTCA dilatation catheter to develop higher flexibility in the balloon segment."

The patented Checker technology helps in enhancing balloon-crossing performance. It has one of the least crossing profiles in balloons and reveals that balloon-crossing profiles are reduced by 15 per cent in comparison to standard balloons. As a result, the need for pre-dilatation of the vessel to allow the catheter to pass through is reduced and it also produces highly flexible balloons, which are crucial in angioplasty.

Another advantage of the product is the limited risk of balloon slippage Slippage

"The XTRM-WAY catheters are sold exclusively by the company, which has a well-developed network of distributors," remarks Ms. Rajagopalan. "Its established relationship with decision makers in hospitals, physicians and other small participants has assisted in increasing the market for the product."

"We are pleased to receive this recognition for all the hard work our team has put into bringing the Checker and other technologies to the market place." said Ronald Horvers, Blue Medical's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "This prestigious award is a true sign that our passion for innovation and patient care is recognized also by others than the direct users of our products and will certainly help Blue Medical in taking the next steps in becoming a true world wide player in this field."
