"GlobalCenter staked out its leadership position in Internet business services with digital distribution and a commitment to customer service," said Doug Hickey, senior vice president of Frontier and president of Frontier GlobalCenter. By completing the acquisition and combining services in just six weeks, Frontier and GlobalCenter demonstrated their combined commitment to be fast-to-market with new, innovative and customer driven integrated communications products and services. Frontier now provides a complete array of integrated communications products and services ranging from local telephone service to high-end Internet content distribution. "GlobalCenter has been providing digital distribution services to Yahoo! since we began our Web directory in 1995," said Tim Koogle, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "I view the combination of GlobalCenter and Frontier Corporation as the beginning of a best of breed service. Because of its comprehensive line of service offerings, I would expect the new company will be an unrivaled provider of integrated communications solutions." Frontier's self-healing SONET fiber optic network for voice and data will be able to pass an estimated 460 Gbps (gigabits per second). Because Frontier GlobalCenter will be facilities-based, owning and managing its own IP backbone, it will have access to virtually unlimited capacity. The network will enable bandwidth-intensive content and applications such as database replication, voice and fax over IP, streaming multimedia technologies and real-time content mirroring. The Frontier network will be completed by year's end, with more than 25 percent already completed and passing traffic.

Also by year's end, Frontier GlobalCenter will complete building an international ATM backbone to transport frame relay A high-speed packet switching protocol used in wide area networks (WANs). Providing a granular service of up to DS3 speed (45 Mbps), it has become popular for LAN to LAN connections across remote distances, and services are offered by most major carriers. , bridged LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The actual equipment may be inhouse or at the third-party's facilities, but the "managed" implies an ongoing effort; for example, making sure the equipment is running at a certain quality . The company plans to wholesale a portion of this network to ISPs and other data services companies.

Frontier GlobalCenter currently handles close to two billion page view per month and 200 million Internet requests daily. More than 60 percent of all Internet searches and 70 percent of all online financial discussions take place on Frontier GlobalCenter's digital distribution architecture. Digital distribution links the end user more closely to content, resulting in a better Internet experience. OneLine Connect is enhanced with three additional e-mail boxes per account and 220 local dial-in numbers. An integrated product will be announced later this year.

All of Frontier GlobalCenter's products and services are supported by 24 / 7 customer service. Single and multi-server content customers are assigned Technical Account Managers (TAMs) who serve as technology service centers to help make hardware and software decisions and handle technical support concerns. The TAMs are unique to Frontier GlobalCenter, and a major factor as to why the company is a premiere digital distribution services provider and the market leader in content hosting.

"I believe that before the year 2000, data services and the Internet will account for more than 90 percent of corporate traffic," said Jonathan Heiliger, CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. See CIO and salary survey.  of Frontier GlobalCenter. "Integrating GlobalCenter's digital distribution architecture into Frontier's fiber optic infrastructure provides enormous opportunity for the development of new Internet applications, as well as to shape the future of both consumer and business-to-business Internet products and services. Being facilities based means that the availability of core network bandwidth is no longer a factor in application development, network performance or pricing. Frontier is positioned to become the market leader in IP services as it turns up its network."
