After winning the gold medal at age 17 she was offered a contract with the Basel Ballet in Switzerland, where she was quickly promoted to principal. She later continued her performing career with Ballett Frankfurt and the Zurich Ballet. "I want to pass on the joy of movement, and even give the dancers a new way to move," Mazzarelli says of her goals as a coach. She also hopes to offer the participants a taste of what she experienced as a dancer with William Forsythe, Ohad Naharin, and Alonzo King, among others. Now a ballet mistress at the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts in Connecticut, Mazzarelli looks forward to being a part of the entire process and seeing how the dancers develop during the three weeks of competition.
