Psst! I've got a secret. Well, 76 of them, actually. Even though people have been curious for months, I haven't told a soul. But since we've become such close friends over these last four years, I think it's finally time that I share them with you. And I don't even mind if you tell your friends about them, too.

To be honest, they're not really my secrets at all. They belong to you, really. They're your choices for the hottest restaurants, the most fabulous stores, and the best tourist destinations all around the state. When we first asked you in our March/April issue to tell us about your favorite places to eat, shop, and have fun from down south to the Delta, we had no idea just how many survey submissions we would receive. Clearly, you have strong opinions about the businesses and attractions in your hometowns, as well as those you've visited across the state.

Finally, the smoke has cleared, and the results have been tallied. The winners are all revealed in our special "Best of Mississippi" section, starting on page 80. The list includes popular establishments and activities in 24 towns in just about every corner of the state. Many have been around for decades and represent the "old guard" of traditional Mississippi dining, shopping, and recreation, but there is also an impressive group of newcomers--innovative restaurants and colorful shops you might not have heard of but we know you'll want to try. Go ahead and dog-ear the pages; like you, I know I'll be using this guide to plan my own day trips and weekend getaways during the upcoming year.

I have a feeling you'll also savor the second part of our "Best of Mississippi" section as much as we enjoyed cooking it up for you. Our second annual reader recipe contest yielded seven incredible recipes that you don't even have to taste to appreciate--just one look at the mouthwatering photos of these uniquely Mississippi dishes beginning on page 92 is enough to make even the strongest Southerner swoon.

Remember, if you don't see your favorites on the "Best of Mississippi" list this year, be sure to vote in our 2007 survey, which will debut in the March/April 2007 issue. Like this year, you'll also be able to vote on our Web site, www.mississippimagazine.com, beginning next March.
