From the editor: a mixed bag.

I've always been a fan of the "variety pack"--you know, something that gives you a bit of each flavor. Call it my natural investigative nature, but I like finding out the possibilities and differences of each thing, before deciding on one that is my favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band. .

NRPA NRPA National Recreation and Park Association
NRPA Natural Resources Protective Association (Staten Island, NY)
NRPA Niagara Regional Police Association (Canada)
NRPA National Rifle and Pistol Association
is really its own variety pack, with a diverse membership with special interests. I think the association is reflective of the park and recreation field as a whole, in that it offers its members and communities different resources based on varying likes and dislikes. Just like a community may offer an aquatic center for the swimmer, a hiking hiking

Walking, often among hills or mountains, as recreational sport. It represents an activity in its own right and also figures in backpacking, camping, hunting, mountaineering, and orienteering.
trail for the nature enthusiast A person who enjoys using computers and electronic equipment. Enthusiasts like technology and are willing to learn more of the ins and outs of a product than the average consumer, who just wants to use it. An enthusiast is more like a "prosumer." See consumer and prosumer.  or open space for urban dwellers, NRPA offers its different branches for its members with diverse specialties.

Because the field and the association are so unique, Parks & Recreation has continued to try and offer editorial that contains something for everyone, no matter your tastes, profession or interests. I think this issue does a particularly nice job of being the perfect variety pack: turn to page 36 to read about how to improve your lifeguards at your pools; turn to page 46 to learn about new surfacing trends in tennis courts; go to page 52 and discover why parks are becoming wireless hubs; and find out why arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant. The term was coined in England in the late 19th cent. as a label for the then-current movement directed toward the revivifying of the decorative arts.  are just as important at community centers as it was 30 years ago.

For me, this issue represents the varying interests of our association and the park and recreation field--I hope your investigative nature will lead you to read all it has to offer.
