Enrollments in Catholic elementary schools elementary school: see school.  dropped in the nation's 11 largest Catholic school systems for the 2002-2003 school year. Detroit registered the highest decline at 7 percent, while Chicago and Boston enrollments dropped by 6 percent. School officials attribute the decrease to the failing economy, not the sex-abuse scandal.
