A few announcements are in order for this short editorial.

First to thank Janet Boyle and Carolyn Schlichter for their many years of serving as Contributing Editors A contributing editor is a magazine job title that varies in responsibilities. Most often, a contributing editor is a freelancer who has proven ability and readership draw.  of the Roeper Review. Dozens of manuscripts have passed through their well informed critiques and visionary 1. visionary - One who hacks vision, in the sense of an Artificial Intelligence researcher working on the problem of getting computers to "see" things using TV cameras. (There isn't any problem in sending information from a TV camera to a computer.  recommendations helping authors and this journal to produce articles of value to the field.

Next to welcome aboard new Contributing Editors Edward Amend, Mary Ruth Coleman Ruth Nancy Coleman (b. September 27, 1931) was an Australian Senator who represented the Australian Labor Party for the state of Western Australia. She served as a Senator for 14 years, from April 18 1974 to June 5 1987. , Cathi Cornelius, Nancy Hertzog, Pat Hollingworth, Claire Hughes, Mary Landrum, Barbara Louis, Diane Montgomery and Robert Shultz.

This issue, and probably the next two issues will not be guest edited issues and focus on one topic. There will be 3 or 4 articles dealing with a specific issue and then a range of articles that are organized around departments such as programs and parenting. These perspectives have always been an integral part of the journal and will continue in those issues which are not guest edited.

And finally, two questions for our readers both of which may be responded to by E-Mail:ruthan@roeperreview. org.

The first is to provide the names (with phone number, contact person, or web site) of independent/private schools that are specifically for gifted students. These are not charter schools, which are public, or home schools. They may be, however, affiliated with a church/religion. The purpose for drawing up such a list was generated at a presentation by Roeper School's Head, Ken Seward at the annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Schools The National Association of Independent Schools, governed by a board of trustees and staffed by approximately 40 individuals, is a U.S.-based membership organization and the national voice of independent education. . There was some discussion about organizing a consortium of independent schools for gifted education Gifted education is a broad term for special practices, procedures and theories used in the education of children who have been identified as gifted or talented. Programs providing such education are sometimes called Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) or . This list is a beginning.

Secondly, there was some discussion at this journal's last annual meeting about electronically publishing the Roeper Review. Now that Steven King Steven King is the name of:

  • Steve King, a United States politician
