Many families pass along their special traditions from one generation to the next. Our invitation last April for our readers to tell us about their unique family customs was a great success. In this issue, "Family Traditions" (pages 16 and 17) presents only a few of the many great responses we received. My colleague Linda A set of parallel processing functions added to languages, such as C and C++, that allows data to be created and transferred between processes. It was developed by Yale professor David Gelernter, when he was a 23-year old graduate student. Rose, who read and selected the responses, believes this feature set a standard for quality and quantity. Our readers wrote about a variety of family traditions. A great many involve a special food or meal. Birthdays, holiday observances, and unique family times are also near the top of the list. I am encouraged to know that so many of our families develop and maintain unique traditions. These traditions are the glue glue: see adhesive. glue Adhesive substance resembling gelatin, extracted from animal tissue, particularly hides and bones, or from fish, casein (milk protein), or vegetables. that holds together strong families. |
