From the Editor: halls of greatness.

As I stood in line to enter the Russell Building on Capitol Capitol, seat of the U.S. Congress
Capitol, seat of the U.S. government at Washington, D.C. It is the city's dominating monument, built on an elevated site that was chosen by George Washington in consultation with Major Pierre L'Enfant.
Hill last year, an overwhelming sense of history came over me. Great men and women who have shaped the nation walked through these same halls. They sat in these same offices and created legislation that in some cases, has stood the test of time.

When I actually entered, I glanced to my left and saw park and recreation advocate Sen. Lamar Alexander Andrew Lamar Alexander (born July 3, 1940) is the senior United States Senator from Tennessee and a member of the Republican Party. He was previously the 45th Governor of Tennessee from 1979 to 1987, U.S. Secretary of Education from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W.  (R-Tenn.) hastily hast·y
adj. hast·i·er, hast·i·est
1. Characterized by speed; rapid. See Synonyms at fast1.

2. Done or made too quickly to be accurate or wise; rash: a hasty decision.
walking down the hall--no doubt headed to some important meeting. Here I was ... walking the same path as our elected leaders. I felt inspired, humbled and invigorated in·vig·or·ate
tr.v. in·vig·or·at·ed, in·vig·or·at·ing, in·vig·or·ates
To impart vigor, strength, or vitality to; animate: "A few whiffs of the raw, strong scent of phlox invigorated her"
 all at once.

Like me, your experience on Capitol Hill during NRPA's Legislative Forum on Parks and Recreation can be one that breathes life into your advocacy. To witness our legislators hard at work, who still manage to take time to speak with a park and recreation group, is truly a memory you won't forget.

I urge you to take part in NRPA's Legislative Forum--not only will you be making a difference for your association, but you'll bring home memories that will last a lifetime. Be sure to read the core values of parks and recreation on page 14--remember these principles when you advocate for funding this year.
