From Yvonne Dienesch re "Day of the unborn child". (Letters to the Editor).

March 25, 2002, was the first official "Day of the unborn child," as decreed in a unanimous vote by the U.S. Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney. , and backed up by the American bishops in their November 2001 document, "A campaign in support of life: A pastoral plan for pro-life activities." This was a follow-up to Pope John Paul Pope John Paul is the name of two Popes of the Roman Catholic Church:
  • Pope John Paul I (1978), who named himself in honor of his predecessors, Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI. Reigned for only 34 calendar days
  • Pope John Paul II (1978–2005), the only Polish Pope.
II's "Gospel of Life" (Evangelium vitae Evangelium Vitæ (Latin: "The Gospel of Life") is the name of the encyclical written by Pope John Paul II which expresses the position of the Catholic Church regarding the value and inviolability of human life. It was promulgated on March 25, 1995. ), March 25 being the Feast of the Incarnation/Annunciation.

Once a society condones the killing of its weakest, most vulnerable members, all kinds of other injustices arise. Everyone is precious in the sight of the Lord, a soul for all eternity. We should all ask ourselves what we can do to promote respect for all human life. Remember, if no one had spoken out in the dark days of slavery in 19th-century America, that odious institution would still exist today.
