From Steve Sylvain re a house divided. No wonder there is so much confusion among churchgoers, with the homilies we hear in some parishes. Sometimes, they are downright down·right adj. 1. And those teachings of our Church are from the Bible, which in turn is from the Word of our Lord. For their own reasons, some [priests] take it upon themselves to ignore those teachings and give their own versions, their own preferences, and as those differ from one to the other, those teachings vary greatly from one to another. They might go from applauding Bill C-38 or same sex "marriage" to bad-mouthing pro-life; to allowing some couples to live together without marriage; even to minimize or totally ignore the state of grace essential to receive Holy Communion communion: see Eucharist; Lord's Supper. ; and to openly promote women's ordinations, in spite of in opposition to all efforts of; in defiance or contempt of; notwithstanding. No doubt our clergy is between a rock and a hard place--we pray incessantly for them to have the courage to teach the truth, not only to respect all teachings of the Church but to also love them. Our Holy Father is the current Peter. And to Peter, the Lord gave. the keys to the kingdom, saying, "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." It is not for anyone to say, "The Church teaches such-and-such but we can have our own opinion!" Such pride! Obstinate ob·sti·nate adj. 1. As a man's character is of great importance to him, and it is his interest to retain the good opinion of all mankind, when he is a witness, he cannot be compelled to disclose the Church. Everyone's duty is to tell the truth without compromise, not to try to adjust our words to the people who are listening. London, ON |
