From Peter Gagliardi re Church. When I went to church as a teenager [I am now 85], I felt I was in the house of God. The statues of Jesus, Mary, and the Saints gave me a great sense of awe and mystery, and a real sense of God's presence. The church was quiet, solemn sol·emn adj. 1. Deeply earnest, serious, and sober. 2. Somberly or gravely impressive. See Synonyms at serious. 3. Performed with full ceremony: a solemn High Mass. 4. , and respectful of God's presence. The priest offered the Mass to God, not the people; it was God's word and God's will Noun 1. God's Will - the omnipotence of a divine being omnipotence - the state of being omnipotent; having unlimited power that changed the bread and wine into Jesus, true flesh and blood. We received the Holy Eucharist kneeling while only the priest handled the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. The changes since Vatican II Noun 1. Vatican II - the Vatican Council in 1962-1965 that abandoned the universal Latin liturgy and acknowledged ecumenism and made other reforms Second Vatican Council Vatican Council - each of two councils of the Roman Catholic Church have downgraded the office of the priest; the awe and solemnity SOLEMNITY. The formality established by law to render a contract, agreement, or other act valid. 2. A marriage, for example, would not be valid if made in jest, and without solemnity. Vide Marriage, and Dig. 4, 1, 7; Id. 45, 1, 30. are gone; in their place we have jokes, laughter and applause, serving self and self-importance instead of worshipping God... The new changes have cut Church attendance in half, especially of the youth, who have lost faith in the Church. When is our Church going to come out of this darkness? Peterborough, ON |
