From Paul Vandervet re Archbishop Exner interview.

Archbishop Adam Exner Adam Joseph Exner (born 24 December, 1928 at Killaly, Saskatchewan) was the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver from 1991 to 2004.

Exner entered the religious order of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1950 in St.
of Vancouver is asked by Catholic Insight (interview, June 2002. pp. 16-17): "assuming that all the pressures and stresses on families are having a negative impact on the domestic inculcation in·cul·cate

of faith, how can the institutional Church help?" He replied: "We do not see the same resurgence of the laity in their apostolate a·pos·to·late

2. An association of individuals for the dissemination of a religion or doctrine.
in the world which is perhaps their primary role."

Where does faithfulness start in a hierarchical church-from the bottom up or the top down? The answer is probably both, but priests and bishops do have extensive training in the faith while generally, the laity do not. Teach us the faith properly and we will evangelize e·van·gel·ize

 the world.

For example, what kind of faithful witness is it for a cardinal to have as the chairman of his charity dinner a politician responsible for guiding abortion amendment legislation 33 years ago and 2 1/2 million abortions later?

Let the hierarchy put the Church's house in order. Bishops and priests are failing to teach the laity about contraception and abortion and these are grave sins. When the Archbishop was asked: "How can we possibly evangelize the culture when it's becoming increasingly difficult to evangelize even in Catholic schools?" The interview states: "Exner (laughs) and said, "I'm not saying that evangelizing the culture is going to be easy..." The sad state of Catholic education in this country is no laughing matter No Laughing Matter is an episode of U.S. Acres from the series Garfield and Friends. It was the 74th episode produced for the series, although it is listed as the 71st episode on the Garfield and Friends DVD. It originally aired on October 21, 1989. , in part because of bishop-sponsored programs such as Fully Alive.

Let them begin to teach us the deposit of the faith as given by Our Lord to the apostles who are their predecessors, and to inspire the faithful to go out into the world and evangelize with courage and love. Let them begin to take as an example the Holy Father in his continual evangelization e·van·gel·ize

Editor: Archbishop Exner has done something about the Catholic schools in his archdiocese. He has banned both the Fully Alive and Growing in Love programs and returned sex education to the parents. (See "Parents win sexed battle" May 2002, p.31).
