From Marie Jalsevac re "The Catholic rebellion".(Sept. 2005) To me the whole situation regarding comments on politicians voiced by some priests and Cardinals--those who are, or who are not in support of politicians who openly support abortion and gay "marriage"--is extremely embarrassing, especially for those outside and even for those within the Church. The difference in opinions by those in authority is making us believe that we are most certainly not together any more. I ask, "What are we afraid of, and why are we so concerned about what the media might think of us Catholics?" The main reason, I believe, is that we have turned into a bunch of cowards and are embarrassed by the fact that our faith believes that life is a gift from God, and marriage is between a man and a woman. We, rather, have become people who do not want to be disturbed and prefer to be like the rest of the world: be only what you think is right and forget about punishment for disregarding the fundamental truths of life. I am perhaps not in favour of making a public spectacle of refusing communion to anyone. Having said so, I believe the politician must be made aware very clearly that he/she is committing a mortal sin by taking the body of Christ while supporting the killing of babies or giving consent to homosexual marriage.... If they still want to receive communion, let them be, it's up to God to judge them. We've done our part.
