However, I would like to present two comments: 1) You mentioned that the price of the book is $40.00, and that the book is not available in bookstores but only through mail order. I think that it would be better to mention that the total cost of each volume is $60.00 when taxes and postage/handling are added. The book is definitely worth $60 and I know that, if the book were sold in book stores, the price could easily reach $100 per volume. However, if someone did not want to spend $60 for a volume, he would be shocked and would return the book, thereby further increasing the costs of the publisher. 2) On page 20 of volume 1, 5th paragraph from the top, we read "Jesus' father and mother took the child south into Egypt," implying that Joseph was Jesus' father; I think that the vast majority of Christians believe in the Virgin birth and would find the statement surprising--if not appalling. Even if the author of this particular section did not believe in the Virgin birth, the statement could have been formed in a neutral way which would not shock (or even offend) the belief of many people. The Church has always held that Joseph is Jesus 'foster father and that James was a cousin. |
