Nurses Explore HIV Prevention

Three groundbreaking studies led by nurse researchers in various inner-cities are among the first to identify specific interventions nurses can perform that hold the promise of preventing infection. Collectively, the studies included African American African American Multiculture A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. See Race.  women, Latino adolescents and both African American and Caucasian adolescent girls.

Children's Behavior in Nursing Research

Two studies address the effects of nurse interventions on problematic child behavior. One such study examined the advantage for children in a federally funded intervention program intended to enhance the social competency COMPETENCY, evidence. Nurses in the Delivery Room

One new study explores delayed pushing in the second stage of labor compared to traditional immediate pushing, which is the standard practice in the U.S. A different approach, and a less common practice in this country, is delayed pushing, which encourages the woman to push only when she feels the urge, allowing passive descent of the baby.

Nurse Intervention Improves Home Caregiving

More than one quarter of the adult population has provided care for a family member or friend during the past year. Based on current census data, that translates into more than 50 million people(1). Health care professionals have become increasingly aware of these caregivers who often work unsupported at home.

Studies presented at CANS investigate communication between health care professionals and home caregivers as it impacts physical, emotional, mental and economic strain placed on those who have little to no time away from their care giving role.
