From Fr. Tom Nicolson re sodomite unions. (Letters to the Editor).

I just picked up your editorial in the January/February issue and your recommendation that "sodomite SODOMITE. One who his been guilty of sodomy. Formerly such offender was punished with great severity, and was deprived of the power of making a will.  unions" be used to refer to what is currently being spoken of as homosexual unions. My question is: can a woman be said to be in a sodomite union if she and another woman are admitted lesbians living together?

Sodomy sodomy

Noncoital carnal copulation. Sodomy is a crime in some jurisdictions. Some sodomy laws, particularly in Middle Eastern countries and those jurisdictions observing Shari'ah law, provide penalties as severe as life imprisonment for homosexual intercourse, even if the

Buggery is historically referred to as a "crime against nature.
, I think, still remains in the Criminal Code in some measure, but it may have been replaced by "sexual assault" or some other euphemism. To use "sodomite unions" is to choose a term that inflames the pro and con PRO AND CON. For and against. For example, affidavits are taken pro and con.  views about the activity of sodomy. Is it prudent to use it even if it is accurate?

You may use this letter as an opportunity for your sought-after publication to reach a wider audience.

Editor replies: I agree that "sodomite union" is an inflammatory term but what! had in mind is that it would not replace "homosexual union" as you mention, but that it would put an end to "same-sex marriage Noun 1. same-sex marriage - two people of the same sex who live together as a family; "the legal status of same-sex marriages has been hotly debated"
couple, twosome, duet, duo - a pair who associate with one another; "the engaged couple"; "an inseparable
." The last is not only a false application of the word "marriage"; it is used so deliberately. "Same-sex marriage" covers up the reality so as not to upset people and that is precisely why its proponents use the term.

On the other hand, "sodomite union" shocks, and immediately makes the reader or hearer aware of the impact of such unions. The Minister of Justice and the three judges, as well as their supporters among the public, are trying to deceive the country and to whitewash whitewash, white fluid commonly used as an inexpensive, impermanent coating for walls, fences, stables, and other exterior structures. It varies in composition, being generally a mixture of lime (quicklime), water, flour, salt, glue, and whiting, with other  the ugly immoral reality of such liaisons.
