From Fr. Cyril Robitaille. (Letters to the Editor).

Congratulations on the January/February issue. It was a delight to see a couple of new angles expressed--the humour column and the article on Goans in our midst.

I read with great delight the article by Adam DeVille on the "Enfeeblement of the Church," a fine expression of what has been going on. In particular, the portion where he regrets the lack of "challenge" which is deplorable when it fails to come to young people, seminarians, and priests. Then they are full of ideals in their late teens and early adult life.

Regretfully, Mr. DeVille failed to call attention to the need for better education. How can we expect better of people if they are not well versed in the deep substance of their faith? How can the youth learn it if the laws and demands and ideals of the faith are not constantly promoted in our Catholic schools? If Sunday homilies are filled with jokes and personal anecdotes crowding a ten-minute time frame, how will the adults learn and review the substance of their faith?

After fifty years of enjoying RCIA in various formats, I concluded that it takes 32 hours of serious education to be fair to the aspiring catechumen--which in ten-minute portions would require seven years from the pulpit, allowing a little time for ad occasionem homilies. Perhaps Father Galadza's desire to have his people attend fuller liturgies may not only be desirable, but necessary.

May the Good Lord continue his gift of grace to all among your staff.
