From Edward McBride re American election articles. The March issue of Catholic Insight contains an article ostensibly os·ten·si·ble adj. Represented or appearing as such; ostensive: His ostensible purpose was charity, but his real goal was popularity. on the recent American election. The author purports to present "a somewhat different perspective" than my own analysis on the subject, published in the January issue. I demur To dispute a legal Pleading or a statement of the facts being alleged through the use of a demurrer. . The second article represents a radical departure, not "a somewhat different perspective" in relation to the one written by me. It is not really about the American election at all. It simply employs the pages of Catholic Insight to attack the President of the United States The head of the Executive Branch, one of the three branches of the federal government. The U.S. Constitution sets relatively strict requirements about who may serve as president and for how long. . The gravamen The basis or essence of a grievance; the issue upon which a particular controversy turns. The gravamen of a criminal charge or complaint is the material part of the charge. of this attack is that the President, in order to facilitate the Second Coming, "marches the world towards Armageddon." This proposition should not find voice outside the lunatic fringe of political discourse--certainly not in the pages of Catholic Insight. Halifax, NS |
