From Domenic Nicassio re religious liberty.Justice MacKinnon's decision to sacrifice religious liberty was made possible because the sad situation of the Catholic Church in Canada easily permits this abuse of power to take place. Notwithstanding the interventions of the Durham Catholic School Board, and the heroic efforts of three small lobby groups, there were important segments of the local church that were completely dumb DEAF, DUMB, AND BLIND. A man born deaf, dumb, and blind, is considered an idiot. (q.v.) 1 Bl. Com. 304; F. N. B. 233; 2 Bouv. Inst. n. 2111. DUMB. One who cannot speak; a person who is mute. See Deaf and dumb, Deaf, dumb, and blind; Mute, standing mute. on the issue, and some which indirectly assisted the outcome. Take for example the so-called 'neutral' intervention of the Ontario English Catholic Teacher's Union. By making the absurd claim that Catholic teaching was uncertain whether homosexual courtship courtship paying attention to a member of the opposite sex with a view to mating; occurs in farm animals but is not highly developed other than estral display by the female and seeking by the male, activities that are rather more pragmatic than implied in the definition. was sinful, the teachers' union only served to strengthen the position of the homosexual lobby groups. This claim turned out to be a useful argument in Justice MacKinnon's decision: "Nowhere... do I find documentary evidence A type of written proof that is offered at a trial to establish the existence or nonexistence of a fact that is in dispute. Letters, contracts, deeds, licenses, certificates, tickets, or other writings are documentary evidence. that establishes that same-sex dancing is sinful or sexual under Catholic dogma DOGMA, civil law. This word is used in the first chapter, first section, of the second Novel, and signifies an ordinance of the senate. See also Dig. 27, 1, 6. ." Perhaps this was a reasonable conclusion given the fact that Ontario's bishops, who are mandated to clarify and protect Catholic moral teaching, did not make any public statement on the issue during the proceedings. As for the absence of outrage OUTRAGE. A grave injury; a serious wrong. This is a generic word which is applied to everything, which is injurious, in great degree, to the honor or rights of another. on the part of Ontario's Catholic population, perhaps we can interpret this as evidence of our excellent formation in moral relativism--an achievement due at least in part to our own Catholic schools. Woodbridge, ON Editor: Bishop Anthony Meagher did present a position paper setting out Catholic teaching. See also the article "The Marc Hall For the baseball player, see .
