From Corrie Haas re "author denounces pro-life movement". (Letters to the Editor).Terence Fay, a Jesuit professor at St. Augustine's Seminary St. Augustine's Seminary is the archdiocesan seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Toronto, in Canada. It is a member of the Toronto School of Theology. It is located by the shore of Lake Ontario in the suburban Scarborough section of the city. History St. in Toronto makes the claim that "Catholic dissenters dissenters: see nonconformists. from the right are centered in Opus Dei Opus Dei (ō`pəs dā`ē) [Lat.,=work of God], Roman Catholic organization, particularly influential in Spain, officially the Prelature of the Holy Cross and Opus Dei. , Communione et Liberazione, Focolare and the pro-life movement" (see Interim Sept. 2002). He also claims that prolifers who support Campaign Life Coalition are more interested in lobbying than in "sympathetic support for pregnant women". Since I am not at all familiar with the other organizations I will just deal with the allegation that prolifers are dissenters of the faith. I was taught that the Jesuit order Noun 1. Jesuit order - a Roman Catholic order founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1534 to defend Catholicism against the Reformation and to do missionary work among the heathen; it is strongly committed to education and scholarship Society of Jesus was established as some sort of spiritual SWAT Team in defence of the Faith, the Church and the Papacy. The Catholic Faith teaches the sanctity of life from conception to natural death and Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus PP. II, Italian: Giovanni Paolo II, Polish: Jan Paweł II) born Karol Józef Wojtyła himself is very much a prolife champion. I therefore find it difficult to comprehend why a Jesuit priest would denounce de·nounce tr.v. de·nounced, de·nounc·ing, de·nounc·es 1. To condemn openly as being evil or reprehensible. See Synonyms at criticize. 2. To accuse formally. 3. pro-lifers as dissenters! Should a person with such views be teaching at an institution that prepares our future spiritual leaders? The professor noted correctly that Campaign Life lobbies politically. That is exactly what they are doing, because they are the political arm of the Pro-Life movement. In my opinion lobbying for a moral cause is a perfectly legitimate activity in a free and democratic society. Professor Fay ought to make an effort to familiarize himself with the aims and objectives of the Pro-Life movement. Then he might no longer feel the need to take cheap shots at those who work so diligently in defence of Life. Petawawa, ON |
