HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Open Biosystems, Inc., focused on the commercialization of leading-edge life science research tools for drug discovery, today announced the launch of the Leopard Transfection Arraye kit, developed by University of Alabama The University of Alabama (also known as Alabama, UA or colloquially as 'Bama) is a public coeducational university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. Founded in 1831, UA is the flagship campus of the University of Alabama System.  Huntsville (UAH UAH

The Charger Products program provides a unique opportunity for graduate students to perform hands-on research focused on product development in a commercial laboratory setting. ), the program serves as an alternative to the traditional positions as a graduate teaching or research assistant, and provides graduate students with the chance to develop an actual product for the biotech marketplace. All revenues from the products will feed back into the program to support existing and new assistantships.

Developed by the first two students to join the program, the Leopard Transfection Array is a first of its kind solution for hard to transfect cell lines. The array contains several unique transfection reagent possibilities and enables customization of a transfection reagent for particular cell lines. Charger ProducteIUs second student product, a cancer cell line array for use in identifying or validating cancer biomarkers, is currently in development.

"The Charger Products program provides students with the opportunity to transfer classroom knowledge to a commercial laboratory, giving them unparalleled research experience in the complete product development life cycle," said Bob Zahorchak, Ph.D., adjunct faculty member at the University of Alabama Huntsville and mentor for the Charger Products program. "As a result, these students have a distinct advantage as they complete advanced degrees and enter into the biotechnology sector seeking employment."

"Much like Open Biosystems, which was founded on the premise of the need for open access to information and resources, the Charger Products program provides graduate students with the tools, technology and guidance necessary to develop products and perfect skills that simply cannot be taught in the classroom," said Troy Moore, chief technical officer of Open Biosystems. "As a company, we are dedicated to nurturing and retaining young scientists and the Charger Products program encapsulates the essence of PBReIUs mission to provide students with first-hand opportunities to work at local companies and helps Huntsville retain top biotech talent to further the areaeIUs position as a hotbed hotbed, low, glass-covered frame structure for starting tender plants. It differs from a cold frame only in that the soil is heated—either artificially as by underground electric wiring or steampipes, or naturally with partially fermented stable manure, which  for biotech research."

As it enters its second year, Open BiosystemseIU Charger Products program has identified three new potential products for students to develop and is currently selecting new graduate assistants to participate in the program. For more information, please visit: www.alpbr.org.
