From Alexander Soucy, Ph.D. A letter to Mr. Chretien and Mr. Graham. (Letters to the Editor).

Please don't lead us to destruction:

Dear Mr. Chretien and Mr. Graham

I am extremely displeased dis·please

To cause annoyance or vexation to.

v.intr.
To cause annoyance or displeasure.
by the way the Liberal government seems to be unquestioningly moving towards cooperation in developing missile defence with the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . It is intolerable that your voices are not being raised in favour of demilitarization de·mil·i·ta·rize

v.intr.
. Mr. Graham, militarisation n. 1. militarization.

Noun 1. militarisation - act of assembling and putting into readiness for war or other emergency: "mobilization of the troops"
militarization, mobilization, mobilisation
is not any more justifiable if on earth rather than in space.

I think we can agree that Canada should stand for peace and disarmament as it always has. While I understand the delicate relational situation that we are experiencing with the United States at the moment, we must be firm in our opposition to this mad situation that we are being sucked into.

Mr. Chretien, you were absolutely correct when you made your statement last year about needing to address the underlying causes for terrorism. The heavy-handed approach that the U.S. is taking will do nothing to promote peace. Building more arms will not bring peace. Canada needs to take a stand and lead by example, through promoting peace and increasing our international development commitment. Derision alone will not sway the U.S. from its course of destruction.
